Pacing weathered field I pause to ponder
many curated rows stretching over yonder
across time and place dutifully furrowed
with curiosity piqued I deem to wonder
Nearest remain a mystery; which will germinate?
fortunate few that if tended may soon resonate
bequeathed life emergent from reasonable action
if tenderly nurtured will long captivate
These older parcels have endured more seasons
diligent pruning mandated to avoid toxic lesions
that bitter the fruit and poison the soil
Resilient crop the endeavour, balanced cohesions
Despite the wear, toil and strain
irrelevant the losses, failings and pain
my humble lot has given much gain
And after reflection - nought in vain.
